Position Summary
The Sales Engineer is responsible for selling and supporting Cirris standard electrical test equipment while driving and supporting custom engineering projects tailored to customer requirements. This role combines technical expertise with consultative sales skills to identify customer challenges, recommend effective testing solutions, and coordinate custom engineering efforts from concept through implementation.
The Sales Engineer serves as a trusted technical advisor to customers and acts as a key liaison between Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Customer Support teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote, sell, and support Cirris standard electrical test equipment to manufacturing, OEM, MRO, aerospace, defense, and government customers.
- Identify opportunities for custom engineering projects and collaborate with internal engineering teams to develop customer-specific solutions.
- Understand customer applications, specifications, and testing requirements to recommend appropriate standard and custom products.
- Manage the full sales cycle, including prospecting, qualification, requirements gathering, solution development, quoting, negotiation, and closing.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, proposals, and sales documentation.
- Develop accurate project quotations, establish project scope, and coordinate pricing, delivery schedules, and commercial terms.
- Maintain customer relationships and proactively develop new business opportunities.
- Utilize CRM systems to manage opportunities, pipeline activity, forecasting, and customer communications.
- Use ERP systems to support quoting, order entry, project coordination, and customer fulfillment activities.
- Provide pre-sale and post-sale technical support, including troubleshooting and coordination of issue resolution.
- Represent Cirris at customer facilities, trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
- Maintain current knowledge of Cirris products, custom engineering capabilities, industry trends, and competitive offerings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in technical sales, applications engineering, project engineering, or a related technical customer-facing role.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate customer requirements into practical solutions.
- Experience presenting technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with CRM software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to travel up to 30%, including domestic and international travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting customer-specific engineering or custom manufacturing projects.
- Experience with electrical testing, wire harnesses, cable assemblies, electro-mechanical systems, automation, or industrial equipment.
- Experience selling capital equipment or technical products within manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and project quotation processes.
- Experience working with aerospace, defense, military, or government customers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of electrical testing principles, manufacturing processes, or related engineering disciplines.
- Consultative selling approach focused on solving customer challenges.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities and projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently communicate with customers and internal teams in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to travel by automobile, commercial airline, and other forms of transportation as required.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with occasional visits to manufacturing, laboratory, and customer locations.
